Responsibilities include:
•Responding to Trouble Tickets and Network Alarms, and rectifying faults.
•Monitoring various elements of the network by multiple Network Management Systems.
•Liaising with Tier 2 staff and other departments to resolve major problems where required.
•Assisting and supporting in planned outages, network hazards and permits to work when necessary.
•Maintaining fault restoration times.
•Maintaining accurate Fault Ticket notes.
•Operating and working on shift as part of a 24x7 network team.
•Work with technology vendors and third party service providers, e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel, Ciena as required to understand incidents and problems.
•Configuration and provisioning builds for new services.
•Incident management.
•Other duties as directed.
Experience/Qualifications:
•Telco experience, with a general understanding within the areas of technical involvement, including network management, equipment configuration and fault resolution processes.
•Good general IP technology knowledge with router, switch, network, IP protocol understanding.
•Ability to resolve issues with minimal supervision.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Strong ability to work well in a team environment, with allocated tasks to be completed independently.
•Requires strong organisational, analytical and problem solving skills.
•Must have a thoroughness and a strong attention to detail to produce clear, concise and accurate written communication.
•Must be able to clearly and effectively convey thoughts and ideas at all levels.
•Must be able to conceptualise systems that comprise of people, process and/or technologies and consider the broader integration perspectives.
Skills:
•Experience in operating in a similar environment NOC environment.
•Good general IP technology knowledge with router, switch, network including Routing protocol (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, RIPv1 and v2).
•Understanding of IP/MPLS VPNs.
•Hands on experience with Bioss, Clarify and LSD systems.
•CCNA essential.
•CCNP useful.
•Transmission Knowledge desirable.

My client a major telecommunications player is looking for a Network Engineer (IP NOC)The NOC role is maintaining my client's core network ensuring its running efficiently and effectively and foreseeing network issues before they impact customers. Any multiple customer impacting outages are dealt with by the NOC which includes sending internal & external notifications and seeing fault through to resolution.
